This poem is for you and me and all those who are still bewildered by love.
Today I celebrate my marriage and all that comes with the package. I wrote down what crossed my mind, not even sure if this is called poetry. Enjoy.
I said, “I want happiness.”
You said you want peace.
I said, “I want adventure.”
You said you want a wedding.
I said, “I want some spice in life.”
You said, “Let’s have a baby!”
I said, “Now I am bored.”
You said, “Write a poem for me.”
Years have passed, we had a full life, but I want something more.
My heart is the desert wind; that’s dry and chills the bone.
I ask you, “Why weren’t we happy before?”
You smile and say, like you always say, “Whoever said so?”
I say, “I know peace now.”
You smile, then you sigh.
I ask, “What’s wrong, my love?”
You say, “I don’t like to see you cry.”
I let them fall, the tears from my eyes;
You pull me in your arms.
I say, “I wish I loved you more,”
You say, “It’s enough for me.”
“It’s not, it’s not, it’s not,” I chant;
You stop me with a kiss.
You hold me as I listen to your heart,
You say, “Here’s all I want.”
